In this book, the author provides the first detailed examination of the Anglo-French antislavery connection and of the French reaction to British salve liberation in the 1830’s and 1840’s. It focuses primarily on France , the author sheds new light on the development of French emancipationism as part of a renascent humanitarian movement. The author uses unexplored primary sources to show short and long term effects of British action had on French governmental decisions about colonial slavery.
