Summary
In December 1944, General Patton turned his Third Army north, taking two of his army’s three corps and all of his armor to strike the Germans during the Battle of the Bulge. The single corps he left behind was XX Corps, which became known as the “Ghost Corps.” It was immediately faced with the daunting task of not only defending the entire Third Army front, but was ordered to attack and break through the Seigfried Line.
