As a California farm boy in the 1920s, Bud Anderson began his lifelong love affair with the planes he flew over his father's orchard. In 1942, he got his wings in the Army Air Corps and went on to become one of the hottest fighter pilots of World War II. In the Second World War, he flew the P-51 and scored 16.5 victories. After the war he became a test pilot. He also commanded a squadron of F-86’s in post war Korea, a wing of F-105’s in Okinawa during the mid-60s. In 1970, he flew 25 combat missions in F-105’s, as a wing commander in Thailand during the Vietnam War.
